A woman lying on Toronto Road was pronounced dead early Tuesday when she was hit by the driver of a TTC vehicle, police say.
Toronto Police Inspector. Officers were called to the Lansdowne and Lapin Avenue areas south of Dupont Street at 1:25 a.m., Roger Carrasiolo said.
The driver saw a bag in the middle of the road when a TTC service vehicle was heading south of Lansdowne, Caracciolo said.
The car veered off the road but the object was “a little bit,” he said.

“It didn’t feel right at the time, so as soon as they left they made a U-turn and came back to the area and saw that they believed it was a corpse,” Carrasiolo said.
“The Toronto police were called. Local Division 11 Division officials were present at the scene and confirmed that it was actually a woman, an adult woman, who had been hit on the road. “

Caraciolo said the woman was a pedestrian who was believed to be “known from the area.”
A close notice to his relatives could not be identified.
The cause of the woman’s death is still unknown, and it is not clear if she was already injured before being hit by a TTC vehicle.
Caracciolo said it appeared that his “significant injury came from being hit by a motor vehicle in that street.”
The Toronto Police Traffic Services Unit is investigating.
