With three crossing party lines, Gorsuch’s vote for Jackson’s nomination is in parity.

Three Republicans backed him, with Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation parallel to Justice Neil M. Gorsuch’s bipartisan support.

Justice Gorsuch, President Donald J. Democrats had already lowered the threshold for lower court judges in 2013, when Mr. McConnell led the Republican blockade against them.

The change has paved the way for Justice Gorsuch and has become an important factor in making the Supreme Court fight more biased by allowing the nominees to be confirmed by a majority vote.

In the end, only three Democrats from the Conservative state – West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin III, North Dakota Heidi Hatecamp and Indiana Joe Donnelly – joined Republicans in supporting Justice Gorsuch by 54-45 votes. Colorado Senator Michael Bennett, a Democrat from Justice Gorsuch’s home state, voted against Philibaster but opposed the nomination.

When the next vacancy occurred in 2018, Justice Brett M. Cavanaugh contacted three Democrats to consult on Mr. Trump’s nomination before putting him in front. In the end, Mr. Manchin was the only Democrat to support Justice Kavanagh on sexual harassment charges.

Both Mrs. Hetcamp and Mr. Donnelly lost their seats in the midterm elections of 2018, and their votes against Justice Kavanagh – as well as the Republicans’ response to his explosive confirmation hearing – were cited as reasons for the defeat.

Of the three Republicans who support Judge Jackson, only Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski is up for re-election this year. Maine Senator Susan Collins was re-elected in 2020, and Senator Mitt Romney’s term ends in 2024.
