The new BMW X5 M spy shot captures crossovers with new taillight graphics

BMW is slowly integrating the facelifted X5 M. The company is giving the entire X5 line a makeover, and that includes the top X5 M. Our spy photographers captured crossovers at various stages of development last year, but the latest spy shots are seen showing the model with new taillight graphics for the first time.

The new photos capture the entire crossover, but it still hides BMW’s styling tweaks, disguised across the front and rear fascias. The X5 M will receive standard mid-cycle upgrades – a new grille, redesigned headlights, tweaked bumper styling, and other visual improvements over the outgoing model. It will take the grille styling from the X6, which may also include the X6’s illuminated grille.

There’s a camouflage covering the rear hatch and bumper, but the taillights will catch your eye. These have been partially revealed in previous spy shots, but the new images show a different design with different disguises to try to hide them. It looks like the X5 M will get a minimal new taillight graphics, but with the back it’s still hard to pinpoint the hidden changes.

The X5 M will have soldiers under the twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 hood. Don’t expect any change, the top-tier X5 M competition is still delivering up to 617 horsepower (460 kW). For those who want something less powerful, the rest will have an updated X5 lineup. This could probably be the last non-hybrid V8 for the model.

Inside, BMW will probably continue the trend of updating models with the latest interior accessories. The new X5 M will probably get the brand’s iDrive8 infotainment system and a larger dash-mounted screen. Automaker has done something similar in the updated 8 Series lineup. BMW will probably make other changes, but they will not change drastically.

BMW has not indicated when the new X5 and the warmer X5 M will arrive. We expect the updated X5 line to debut this year for the 2023 model year, but we don’t know if we’ll see the full model range or just the regular X5. We hope the revelation is not too far in the future.
