A celebration of life takes an unusual turn when the body of a dead person is raised on the stage of a nightclub, when strobe lights come on and sparks fly.
On Monday, a video of Merkel Moro’s body, also known as rapper “Guineau”, wearing designer clothes and a crown at DC’s Bliss nightclub, spread on social media.
Moro, 24, was killed last month after being found shot dead in a parking lot in the District Heights area, WUSA9 reported.
“All he wanted to do was try to get his family out of the hood,” his mother, Patrice Morrow, told the outlet. “He had a heart bigger than his body. When they took him, they took me.”
Morrow told Fox 5 DC that she buried her son on Monday and did not want to be sorry. He added that the celebration at the nightclub was exactly the way they wanted to honor his life.
Videos of the event went viral and many shared that they were shocked to see a possibly dry body standing in a nightclub.
“People just say what they want and that’s right. That’s perfectly fine. I am satisfied with the way I sent my son, “Moro told Fox 5 DC.” I want people to let me mourn in peace. “
In a statement on Instagram, Bliss said they had been contacted by a local funeral home that they could rent their space for a home-made celebration in Goniu, but “they were never made aware of what would happen.”
Bliss apologized to anyone who was “disturbed or upset” by the celebration and asked people to keep Gunny’s family and friends in their prayers.
