Next-gen Ford Transit Custom Speed ​​with Production Body

In January of this year, we spied on a next-generation Ford Transit Custom mule loaded onto a trailer. The development of this vehicle seems to be advancing rapidly as it has been captured on camera once again by our spy photographers, this time with its production body and light. It’s still heavily disguised but there’s still a lot to see.

Speed ​​testing in southern Europe, this prototype may seem very familiar but it is actually the next generation transit custom, a model that is not sold in the United States. As you can see, the car has six nuts, which indicates its new underpinning. Also, it seems to be a bit longer than the outgoing model, especially if you look closely at the distance between the front and rear axles.

Despite the disguise, there is something more visible even to the untrained eye. The front fascia, for example, has smoother headlights than the model’s predecessor and more point design than the more sculptural bumpers. Side mirrors have a more angular shape than the previous transit custom’s more oval mirrors.

The new van will be heavily electrified and will offer a full electric and plug-in hybrid version, in addition to the traditional gas and diesel models. PHEV may share its powertrain with current transit custom PHEV, although Ford may decide to upgrade to a new electrified system. Given the company’s deep relationship with Volkswagen, we wouldn’t be surprised if VW’s PHEV setup finds its way under the Blue Oval’s bus hood.

Speaking of the collaboration between the two automakers, the new transit custom will be used as the basis for the next generation of Volkswagen transporters. We are talking about the cargo version of the Wolfsburg model, which will basically be a revised and slightly redesigned version of Transit Custom.
