Flea’s Daughter used RHCP’s first Grammy Award Garden shovel

Last week, the Red Hot Chili Papers became immortalized with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, making them the 2,717th recipients of such honors. While talking to KROQ about the historic moment, flutist Flee recalls another prestigious award – his first Grammy – and how his daughter used the trophy as a garden shovel, unknown.

A Grammy Award, for many artists, a career-defining moment and the opportunity to bring home that alluring gold gramophone that is not usually taken lightly … or taken in the tool shed.

When asked about the Walk of Fame star recently given to the legendary Alt-Rock group, Flee told KROQ, “It’s like a Grammy. Say, I’m grateful to have won the Grammys, the Grammys are great, but after we won our first Grammy, like three years later.” My mom said, ‘Michael, where’s your Grammy?’, And I was, ‘I don’t know, Mom, I put it somewhere.’

Apparently some time has passed and Flea has not yet found the trophy.

“A few months later, my gardener came out of the backyard and you know how Grammy looks like an old record player with horns? My daughter opened it and used it as a shovel for the garden. It was dirty there for the whole winter. It was in the dirt for the whole winter and stuff, ”Bassist continued.

The whole ordeal is a reflection of Flea’s attitude towards such praise and he further explains, “I am not really an award winner. I don’t sit around or look at them or anything else. Just part of that road. When we were doing that thing [receiving the Walk of Fame honor] Yesterday, when I was 11 years old, I talked about panhandling on that street … that’s where I grew up, man. When I first looked down the street at them and all the people, I wondered what it was like to be a show business or an entertainer. To be a part of it, there’s a lot of history, it’s really nice. ”

“That road has been a part of me since I was little,” he adds, noting that he has not lost touch with where he came from. “Wherever I go in the world, it always comes with me. It’s really nice to be a part of it forever. I don’t know if the layout and the way we do it is the best way, but it’s a weird thing. The competitive side of it is weird, [not] Celebrating art and culture. “

Fortunately for Flea, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have won six Grammys, so there should be a handful more shovels to keep the… wrong… trophy রাখা around her new $ 14 million home.

Catch Red Hot Chili Peppers on a tour of Europe and North America later this year as they come out in support of their new album, Unlimited loveTheir first with guitarist John Fruient since 2006 Stadium Arcade.
