Cody Rhodes says he told WWE executives that he was the best wrestler

Cody Rhodes spoke with Diversity in an interview published Saturday night. Below are the highlights of the interview which can be read in full on Variety.com.

Cody Rhodes recalled to WWE officials that he thought he was the best wrestler in the world: The best wrestler in the world. And to go further with it, I don’t really think there’s a closed second. But with that said, the opportunity now exists to prove it, and that’s what I’m most excited about. A completely different person returning to the game. This is a different brand. It’s someone who has experienced all the wonders of independent wrestling, traveled internationally, been able to land with the fans that move this whole ship. “

Rhodes was also asked about the AEW exit: “I have chosen to remain silent about my exit from the AEW and I am going to keep my word on that. No shooting interview. There is no such thing as a heinous story. These were all different theories and none of them is correct. I mean, there was something about money and creative control. These were printed as truth and it was very difficult for two months to see, when the reality was then. This is a personal matter and we cannot go beyond it. Rhodes also said he was an executive producer of an A&E documentary on his late father, Dusty Rhodes: “I just wanted to share with you because I couldn’t share with anyone, I’m really excited that A&E is making a documentary on my dad. Being able to be an executive producer in it and not even questioning and being able to coordinate people who were really in his life and tell his story, is also a big part of this journey. Powell’s POV: So the mystery of why Cody left AEW continues. It is commendable that Cody continues to speak positively about Tony Khan and other EVPs, whatever the reason for his departure. This is good business too, because you can’t rule out the possibility of Cody returning to AEW one day. This may seem like a big long shot right now, but Cody’s return to the WWE doesn’t seem to be as long a shot as Cody’s first year in AEW.
