Looking for a small convertible SUV? Then maybe VW T-Roc Convertible is the perfect SUV for you. This convertible version of the compact VW T-Roc SUV adds a unique open-top experience to the T-Roc that completely transforms its level of practicality and occasion.
The VW T-Roc SUV debuted in 2017 on VW’s MQB A1 platform. This compact SUV slot is under the larger VW Tiguan and is considered to be the equivalent of the VW Golf SUV. The T-Roc never reached the American coast where customers look for the compact VW Taos that slots under the Tiguan.
The VW T-Roc follows VW Golf’s general trim lineup and even introduced a high-performance T-Roc R trim in 2019. The T-Roc Cabrio was a stunning addition when VW unveiled their new drop-top SUV in 2020.
The 2020 T-Roc Cabrio means that the vacuum resulting from the departure of the VW Beetle ended production in 2019, and the VW Golf Cabrio ended production in 2016.
Turning the T-Rock from a practical compact SUV to a four-seater convertible requires a lot of engineering and custom bodywork. For starters, the T-Roc Cabrio is now a coupe instead of a typical four-door SUV that needs a new body panel to replace. In fact, every piece of metal behind the front wheels is new. The T-Roc Cabrio has a longer wheelbase than a normal base SUV, which helps it adapt to the new folding fabric roof.
Instead of a rear hatch, the T-Roc Cabrio has a smaller traditional trunk with 284.0-liters of space, which is 161.0-liters less than the typical T-Roc. This design change was needed to accommodate the power-folding fabric roof that occupies most of the truck’s space when closed.
For American customers looking for a convertible VW SUV, you’re sadly out of luck because the T-Roc and T-Roc Cabrio weren’t just made for the American coast. Perhaps a used Land Rover Evoque Cabrio could do the trick?
